The gastronomical offerings of Sorrento and Amalfi Coast are wide, varied, rich in choices and suitable to all pockets.
Sorrento cuisine is strongly linked to the produce that grows in this fertile land. The wonderful climate is perfect for the cultivation of citrus fruits, oranges and lemons, olives and vines, which together paint a characteristic landscape. Even the sea, which washes the coast of the peninsula, is particularly generous.
There are many restaurants and pizzeria in Sorrento where food lovers can eat well without spending a small fortune.
For a quick bite, go to a bar. In bars you can find panino sandwiches on various kinds of rolls and tramezzini.
The restaurants, which have made the cuisine in Sorrento world-famous, offer more than just local specialties and dishes typical of the Neapolitan Coast – they have a wide selection from which to choose on their menu’s, and there are restaurants which serve nouvelle cuisine and others which focus on typical dishes of this area. However, if you order typical dishes, offers you the best chance for a memorable meal. Even better, forego the menu entirely and put yourself in the capable hands of your waiter.
A memorable meal has to begin with a good starter (antipasto). Fresh-caught octopus salad, chowder and sautéed seafood are just a few of the traditional dishes served in Sorrento’s Restaurants. Among the typical recipes are fish ravioli in lobster sauce, fresh scialatelli, and gnocchi with mozzarella and fresh tomato. The best-loved main course dishes include the exquisite bluefish parmigiana and the mixed fried fish.
If you want to taste typical cakes you have too much to choose from caprese chocolate cake and the mouthwatering ricotta cheese and pear dessert, babà and lemon cake (delizia al limone). An absolute must is “Limoncello” a delicious digestive liqueur made from the infusion of Sorrento lemon peel in pure alcohol.
